Four Ways You Can Start Losing Weight

Four Ways You Can Start Losing Weight

The easiest and most effective way to lose weight is by adopting a healthy lifestyle and making small habit changes that add up in a big way. Some habits include not skipping meals, drinking enough water, introducing more movement into your schedule, and practicing patience, remember you did not gain the weight overnight, so you can expect to lose it overtime as well.

The struggles of losing weight and trying to stay healthy can be daunting. But there are things you can do today to help you pave the way to long term results.

This blog covers 4 ways you can start losing weight today by changing your habits and lifestyle.

Avoid Feeling Extreme Hunger

Anytime you feel hungry, drink water first. A glass of water might be all you need at that time. Drink to thirst and then some more. Sometimes, we mistake the sensation of thirst for hunger. Try to get in the habit of drinking plenty of water throughout the day.

If you do actually need a snack, grab a snack high in fiber. A healthy snack such as cucumbers, carrots, celery or other fruits can satisfy your hunger without adding extra calories.  When you consume these foods, it takes longer for your stomach to digest them so you’ll feel fuller for longer periods of time. You can also try chewing more slowly when eating small bites of food which will help you feel fuller faster.

You can also eat protein-rich foods such as nuts or beans. These foods also take longer for your body to digest, so your appetite will be satisfied for longer after eating them. Eating protein-rich foods also helps build muscle which increases metabolic rate and burns more calories throughout the day.

Start Moving

Exercise is important for weight loss and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Moving your body releases natural endorphins which make you feel good.

Try to get some sort of movement in your daily routine, even short, low-impact exercise can be incredibly effective when you are getting started.

A quick walk outside will increase your mood, help relieve stress and make you feel more energized.  Set a goal for only 5 minutes walking if you don’t feel like it initially. You might find that after 5 minutes you want to keep walking.

Not only are there health benefits when you exercise regularly, but various other benefits. Exercise increases the blood flow to the body, which helps with better nutrient and oxygen delivery. It also increases the amount of endorphins in our brains which makes us feel better. Finally, exercise can help you sleep better because it releases serotonin.

Monitor Your Sodium Intake

Watch your sodium intake, the average american diet has a high sodium content. Aim to lower your sodium intake if you are on a high salt diet. Foods that are high in salt also increase your blood pressure and create fluid retention.

So, next time you are tempted by that salty dish or ordering takeout, just remember that it is one of the most important steps you can take for your weight loss journey.

Decrease Your Screen Time

It is a proven fact that too much screen time can lead to weight gain.  It is advised that adults should spend no more than two hours a day watching TV. If you have to spend a longer time at the computer for work, take multiple breaks during the day.

Instead of watching TV, read a book or do a stretching routine instead. The more active you are,  the more energy you will have for other things.

Weight loss doesn’t have to be complicated and it doesn’t need to happen overnight. If you start implementing these simple steps today, they will pay off over time.
